First released in the early 1950’s, Cynar is an Italian aperitif, named after the artichoke (Cynara Scolymus) which is the main flavouring ingredient.
Won a Silver medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2023.
Ripe tomatoes and bittersweet stewed vegetables may not sound like the aperitif of your dreams, but it works here as the artichoke is combined with caramel-like sweetness.
It is made from thirteen herbs and plants, predominant amongst which is the artichoke (Cynara Scolymus), from which the drink derives its name, these are steeped in neutral spirit, before being sweetened.
